Not too long ago, we reported about Nokia hinting at offering some interesting news on its Symbian platform during an event slated for April 12. According to a post on the official Nokia Conversations blog, the company has taken the wraps off its improved version of the Symbian OS dubbed Symbian Anna. Nokia has also launched two new handsets namely X7 and E6, both powered by the aforementioned OS.

Previously referred to as PR2, Symbian Anna will now feature refreshed icons, enhanced text input, the newest version of Ovi Maps and an improved browser. The new platform includes browser v7.3 equipped with attributes such as search-integrated address fields, quick history navigation, split screen virtual keyboard and better user responsiveness amongst others.

This browser is touted to proffer faster performance and will be simple to use. The most noticeable update of this OS is the brand new icons. Text input has been enhanced by the introduction of the highly-anticipated portrait QWERTY keypad. Additionally, users are presented with split screen display so that visibility is not hindered when filling in web pages or apps.

The photo gallery has now become more functional compared to previous versions of the same OS. The upgraded flavor of the platform will also incorporate Ovi Store v2.06, Ovi Suite v3, Social v1.3 and Ovi Maps v3.06. The inclusion of Microsoft Communicator Mobile for IM as well as several e-mail improvements are bound to put a smile across most business professionals’ faces.

Nokia’s Symbian Anna platform is expected to be available for download on existing devices such as Nokia N8, C7, C6-01 and E7 in the forthcoming months.
