Micromax pulls in Modu T for Indian users

Micromax Modu T Previously, we had penned a post pertaining to the Modu T handsets. The company had launched an innovative technology wherein additional functionalities like a camera, QWERTY keypad or hands-free can be accessed via add-on jackets. Well, looks like Micromax Informatics was impressed with these novelties. Thus, the company has partnered with the Israeli based company, Modu, to introduce this product in Indian markets.

The device will be co-branded bearing the colors of both the companies. For those who are wondering why we are terming this device as an innovative product, well its because the phone is truly customizable. Moreover, the phone claims to be a Guinness World Record holder for being the lightest touch phone in the world.

Vikas Jain, Business Director, Micromax, asserted, “We are excited to work with modu, and bring this unique phone to the Indian audience with the Micromax touch. The modu T phone, co-branded and customized with Micromax gives consumer this modular mobile experience. The ‘fy’ devices provide an enhanced ecosystem, with multiple new functions added to the phone to enable users the freedom to choose, to change and to express themselves. Initially we will provide 2 ‘fy’ devices that make the phone multi functional and we are working with modu to introduce more ‘fy’ devices in the near future. The modu T phone will be available in India from 22nd October 2010 and will be launched with pre-bundled 2GB memory card and both ‘fy’ devices under a special launch promotional offer for the auspicious Indian festival of Diwali”.

Dov Moran, CEO and founder of modu, said, “We are quite fortunate to be launching in a dynamic market such as India with Micromax and with what we believe is a break-through product as the modu T. It is an opportunity for both companies.”

The modu T handset operates on 3.5G speeds and is fitted with a 2.2” touchscreen. Further it features a memory card slot to house a microSD card with an expandable memory support of 32GB. It runs on the Qualcomm Brew platform. modu T offers it users an assortment of applications including Twitter, Flickr, Google Search, Facebook, Snaptu, TuneWiki, eBuddy, and YouTube.

Originally there are about 4 ‘fy’ devices which are compatible with the Modu T handset. However, in India it will come with only two of them namely, Camera fy and Sport fy. The modu T phone is anticipated to hit the Indian markets by October 22, 2010. It will come pre-bundled with a 2GB memory card and both the ‘fy’ devices as a promotional launch offer, just in time for Diwali. The pricing details remain ambiguous.
