As per the Nielsen third quarterly survey, Android is still at the fore of the smartphone race in USA, followed by iOS in the second place. The study discovered that Android was the most employed smartphone OS in the third quarter of this year as it accounted for 43 percent of devices sold in the country.
According to Nielsen, Android seems to have climbed the smartphone OS as well as the popularity ladder since there has been an increase from 39 percentage in July this year to 43 percent as of today. The iOS operating system of Apple has meanwhile retained its second position this quarter too by occupying 28 percent of the smartphone market share.
The survey also recorded that a huge chunk of those below the age of 44 now own smartphones and 62 percent of adults between the ages of 25 and 34 used them. The other mentioned age groups ranging between 18 and 24 as well as 35 and 44 are also expected to be quite tech savvy as 54 percent of these respondents are users of smartphones.
The popularity of smartphones appears to be at an all time high and these devices are rapidly gaining an edge over regular feature phones. This Nielsen survey claims that almost 40 percent of 12 to 17 year-old teens and 40 percent of those between the ages of 45 and 54 possessed a smartphone as opposed to a standard, basic feature phone.
As the fourth quarter approaches its end, the smartphone race is expected to heat up even more and it remains to be seen whether iOS succeeds in overtaking Android.
