Concepts have been showcased time and again with some really amazing innovations coming to light. Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) has announced that during Pepcom’s ‘The Digital Experience!’ at the Consumer Electronics Show, it will showcase the next-generation flexible AMOLED displays.

Samsung claims that the WVGA flexible AMOLED display offers ‘world’s highest flexible display resolution’. The prototype is only 2mm thick and can be entwined into a roll that measures a centimeter in radius. The flexible display is sized up at 4.5 inches proffering a WVGA 800 x 480 resolution.

It boasts of providing four times a display resolution that has been previously offered by the most flexible AMOLED prototype. In fact, it can withstand 450-500 degree temperatures which are required in the manufacturing process. The company states that usually flexible displays are made of plastic substrates in place of the glass ones, since the display becomes lighter and thinner.

These new plastic substrates apparently do not breakdown that easily during manufacturing. The older ones melted at temperatures over 400 degrees thus increasing the difficulty in manufacturing. The 4.5 inch fFlexible AMOLED prototype is developed to be used for smartphone displays.
