A little while back Google announced new methods of search to get users to their content faster. According to the Official Google Mobile Blog, Google has now introduced Gesture Search for Android 1.6.
Gesture Search is now available on devices with Android 1.6 and higher. The new Google Labs application allows users to quickly find a contact, an installed application, a bookmark or a music track from hundreds or thousands of items, by simply drawing alphabet gestures on the touchscreen.
Just open Gesture Search and draw a letter and the feature returns a list of items that have words starting with that letter. If the handwriting of a searcher isn’t all that neat, that’s okay. If the letter ‘A’ looks a bit like an ‘H’, ‘H’ results will be brought up as well. Users can also erase a query by crossing it horizontally: left to right erases the entire query, and right to left removes the last letter or space in the query. Users can either scroll down the list to find that friend or write more letters to refine the search.
In addition, the feature enhances search quality by learning from users’ search history. The new version also includes some improvements to performance and bug fixes.
Google Gesture Search can now be downloaded in all countries where Android Market is available.
