Yet another augmented reality app hits the Apple App Store in the form of the Theodolite 1.0. This versatile app developed by Hunter Research and Technology acts as compass, GPS, map, zoom camera, and two-axis inclinometer.
Images can now be captured directly from the app which features 2X and 4X digital zoom options. Even geographical data can be imprinted on the saved image for later reference. iPhone users can now view their exact geographical location by means of the built-in map that boasts of standard, satellite and hybrid modes.
Theodolite superimposes real-time information about position, altitude, bearing, and horizontal/vertical inclination on iPhone’s live camera image, renovating the Apple device into an urbane location-aware viewfinder. Additionally on iPhone 3GS, bearing is updated live on the map with both fixed view as well as world rotation.
Theodolite 1.0 runs on any generation iPhone with OS 3.1 or later. However, to avail GPS functionality, users need to own iPhone 3G or 3GS. Further, the compass functionality is made available only on the iPhone 3GS. The Theodolite 1.0 augmented reality app can be purchased from the Apple iTunes just for $0.99.
