The mobile world is flooded with several location based applications like Foursquare and Loopt, to name a few. One among these providers who offers location based services is Centrl, which is now planning to bridge the gap between mobile phone users and the web, reports TechCrunch.
Centrl has offered services on iPhone, Android, BlackBerry (JAD file) and Nokia and is now offering a web app. The service is functional within major social networks and permits users to login from their existing accounts on Facebook, MySpace, iGoogle, Friendster, Hi5, Orkut and more, via any platform or device.
Reportedly, the latest web app offers the same functionality as that of its mobile version. Similar to the mobile version, even the web app broadcasts users location to their friends, helps users to find coupons, restaurants, bars, gas stations, general points of interest, real estate. It also notifies users about the nearby events by collecting information from Yelp, Citysearch, Wikipedia and other sites.
The web app is fully integrated into Centrl’s social network versions and mobile phone apps. Users of the web app can also share content by marking a place on a map, uploading a picture, adding a comment and posting a link to Twitter. Centrl then automatically creates a profile page based on that information for other mobile or web app users.
The web app also facilitates real-time location-based communication. The innovative messaging system enables users to access Centrl on a PC to view the location of people using the mobile apps and instantly initiate text-chatting.
This innovative mode of interaction seems to take networking as well as communication to new levels.
