Palm Pre Android Skin Copyright and trademark issues are a matter of concern. The Android team had recently developed a Palm Pre Android theme that borrowed icons, wallpapers, etc. directly from the Palm Pre webOS. However, this skin has now been discontinued after the developer of the theme, L3wish, has received a long notice from Palm’s lawyers saying that he was infringing on graphics copyright and trademark infringement and he should take down the theme.

In the notice, Palm mentions that although it appreciates that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, the company is concerned about the possibility of widespread consumer confusion due to the naming of the theme. Engadget iMobile says that the skin is called the ‘Palm Pre Android theme’ which means that it uses Palm’s trademarks. The company is demanding that Android should stop utilizing Pre’s interface, name, etc by a given date.

Apparently, the iPhone Palm Pre theme known as Palm Prefection has also been taken down. Apple, too, had asked several developers to take down iPhone themes developed for WinMo and Palm phones around two years ago.

Looks like consumers have to learn to be satisfied with the phones they originally bought.
