Sprint announces its plan to expand 4G WiMax network

Sprint Logo Sprint reveals its plan to expand the WiMax 4G services to 10 new cities in 2009.The WiMax 4G service will be launched in cites like Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Honolulu, Fort Worth and Charlotte. Along with the launch of the service, Sprint also plans to introduce several new 4G devices in 2009 and 2010.

The 4G service is already available in Baltimore since September and Sprint also plans to launch it in several other cities like Boston, New York, San Francisco, Houston and Washington in 2010.

“Sprint continues to lead the wireless industry by harnessing the power of WiMAX,” says Todd Rowley, vice president of Sprint 4G. “The availability of Sprint 4G in more places this year and our aggressive expansion of Sprint 4G service demonstrates our commitment to provide 4G capabilities and devices nationwide for our business, consumer and government customers. These capabilities enable significantly enhanced performance and productivity for our customers.”

The 4G service of Sprint will enhance the usage of internet on mobile phones. It will change the way users use their mobile broadband by extending the internet beyond office and home use.

This 4G WiMax based network will offer rich content, larger file transfers, streaming videos and low latency remote access. The service offers downlink speed of upto 12 Mbps and average downlink speed of 2-4 Mbps.
