The launch of Sony Ericsson’s highly anticipated Xperia X1 smartphone may just be getting closer. The company has recently announced a tailor-made SDK for the upcoming smartphone Xperia X1 and has asked Windows Mobile developers to start working on applications for this phone.
The invitation is out for developers and content creators to “capitalize on the opportunities offered by developing mobile content for the phone”. Absolutely free of cost, the SDK will allow amateur developers to create a host of unique multi-media entertainment and content for the interactive panel interface of the Xperia X1 that allows users to customize their Today screen. Applications can range from music, photography, email or instant messaging, gaming, social networking or video applications.
The kit comprehends Microsoft Visual Studio templates, developer guidelines, sample code, and an Xperia X1 emulator. Developers also have the option of contesting in the Sony Ericsson Content Awards with a category exclusively dedicated to the Xperia X1. On completion, the applications will be available via a download service that will exhibit all the available panels from partners and developers allowing you to download them directly to the smartphone.
In case you missed out on the Xperia X1 in February 2008, here’s a low down on some of its features. It includes a 3″ TFT Touchscreen, Arc Sliding Qwerty Keyboard, 3.15 Megapixel Camera, A-GPS, Handwriting Recognition, Windows Mobile OS with Office Mobile and Outlook mobile, 3G and Video calling capability and Wi-fi Connectivity
Though this hotly awaited phone is not yet out, budding developers can start creating cool applications by downloading the SDK from Sony Ericsson’s developer site.
