Two new iPhone projects by Id Software

Iphone,IdJohn Carmack, technical director and cofounder of Id software has revealed at QuakeCon 2008 that ID Software is apparently working on a couple of iPhone projects. The first game Doom2 is supposedly an extension of Id’s mobile stuff and the second game Wolfenstein RPGs will be a more unexpected and exciting “graphical tour de force.”

During his keynote address, Carmack mentioned, “We’re probably going to be making some moves to do some iPhone development. We have two different projects that are at least vaguely in the works for the iPhone.”

While John Carmac was quite unsure of bringing the games to the iPhone, Todd Hollenshead, CEO affirmed that there was quite a likelihood of the two games being introduced to the iPhone. Apparently more powerful than a DS and PSP combined, the software is already being worked on for other platforms.

With a small team at Id, the company is planning to team up with a publishing partner to develop the game for the iPhone. Too early to mention if the games will be ported to the iPhone, Hollenshead is tackling the issue cautiously. He further explained that from a game standpoint, the expectations are high as games on the iPhone can be pretty competitive.

Id software surely wants to bring the two games to the iPhone, but the two leaders Carmack and Hollenshead have different outlooks on the situation.
