T-Mobile, New York map T-Mobile has announced the launch of the third-generation wireless network in New York. But very few phones will be able to use it. Being the No. 4 carrier in USA its UMTS/HSDPA network uses advanced wireless services spectrum.

T-Mobile network has been slowly rolling out its 3G network. Though not confirmed, the 3G service will be made available to major metropolitan cities. Presently, Nokia’s 6263 and 3555 and Samsung’s t639 and t819 work on its UMTS network. Web browsing and downloading content like ring tones will be twice as faster with 3G on these handsets. It isn’t compatible with the AT&T phones with HSDPA or other imported ones because of its different airwave for 3G service.

While all its competitors are increasing their pace with 3G, T-Mobile has focused on offering WiFi hotspots. During the announcement T-Mobile assured its customers that it has upped the network and already has around 9000 hotspots. It offers a service with combined WiFi and cellular phones.

T-Mobile has spent around $4.2 billion in 2006 for acquiring licenses and is also said to spend about $2.66 billion later to upgrade its network.
