Sometime earlier this month, we reported about the release of the much-awaited Apple iPhone beta Software Development Kit (SDK). Equaling the hype surrounding its release, Apple has announced that the SDK was so well-received that over 100,000 iPhone developers downloaded the Kit in the first four days since its launch on March 6, 2008.
The iPhone SDK offers developers the same rich set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and tools that Apple uses to create its native applications for the iPhone.
According to Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, “Developer reaction to the iPhone SDK has been incredible with more than 100,000 downloads in the first four days.”
“Also, over one million people have watched the launch video on Apple.com, further demonstrating the incredible interest developers have in creating applications for the iPhone,” he added.
Besides this Apple has also previewed the new App Store, which offers developers a groundbreaking method to wirelessly deliver their applications to every iPhone. The business model is based on this- developers set the price for their applications, even if they are free, and then retain 70% of all sales revenues.
Using the newly released SDK for the iPhone, well-known developers like Electronic Arts, AOL, Sega and Epocrates have already demonstrated superb applications using the SDK.
Scott Rubin, vice president, Sales and Marketing, Namco Networks said, “We’re very excited about Apple’s new SDK and reaching every iPhone user through the new App Store.”
“We can’t wait to show off great new versions of arcade classics like PAC-MAN and Galaga that use the revolutionary features of the iPhone and iPod Touch,” he added.
The free beta of iPhone SDK is available immediately all over the world from here.
