Nokia 6788, first ever TD-SCDMA device

Nokia 6788 Handset Nokia today announced its first ever handset that supports TD-SCDMA, China’s domestic 3G standard. The handset is a result of collaboration between the Finnish giant Nokia and China Mobile. The handset has been developed specifically to support China Mobile’s 3G network.

The Nokia 6788 incorporates various Chinese design elements and patterns. These patterns are inspired by the traditional Chinese furniture and architecture. The handset claims to offer rich data services.

Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of Nokia commented, “Nokia sees TD-SCDMA as being central to the successful evolution of 3G in China, and so is fully committed to this 3G standard. With a wide range of integrated China Mobile applications, the Nokia 6788 marks a new level of collaboration with China Mobile and offers enriched experiences to China’s 3G users. Nokia plans to introduce more TD-SCDMA phones in the near future, further boosting the development of this 3G standard in China.”

This all-in-one device promises to provide users with faster Internet speeds and download times. This feature allows users to instantly share data and stay connected with friends and family. The handset boasts of its 5-megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash. This camera is capable of capturing images with a resolution of 2592 x1944 pixels. Flaunting a 2.8-inch QVGA display, this handset runs on Symbian S60 platform.

The Nokia 6788 handset is expected to hit the market before the end of this year. The pricing details of this handset are still under wraps.
