Lenovo S930, S650, S820, S920, S660, P780 receive Android 4.4 KitKat update

It’s good to see Lenovo releasing the Android KitKat 4.4 update for its P780, S930, S650, S820, S920 and S660 in India instead of pretending that it doesn’t owe users anything after they’ve bought the phones. The scene is changing slowly, but homegrown manufacturers in the country are yet to invest their heart and soul into earning customer loyalty by providing such support.

A lot of companies in India just bet on building a profitable business by selling cheap handsets instead of concentrating on the long-term goal of establishing brand value by taking advantage of the price-sensitive market here. China-based Lenovo will be rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade in stages beginning from this week and wrapping up with the S660 getting its software refresh in September.

Lenovo S930

KitKat will bring the Vibe series UI as well as a suite of Lenovo Premium DOit apps to the S930, S650, S820, S920, S660 and P780. But before you download and install the update, it would be wise to back up your data first. With Android 4.4, you get enhanced app compatibility, a better incoming call interface, some bug fixes and improved battery utilization.

The cameras on these S series smartphones will also enjoy refined white balance and auto focus capabilities among other tweaks. As for Lenovo’s Premium DOit apps, there’s SECUREit to help you manage your monthly mobile data usage, SHAREit for phone-to-phone data transfers without the need for a mobile network or Wi-Fi connectivity and SYNCit data backup.

Lenovo P780

Before this software roll-out for the S930, S650, S820, S920, S660 and P780, Lenovo launched the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the S860, Vibe Z and Vibe X last month. The company has released more than 18 smartphones in India over the last two years.
