IRCTC Windows 8 and WP8 application goes live, facilitates booking e-tickets

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation or IRCTC has collaborated with Microsoft for developing an application for Windows 8 as well as Windows Phone 8 platforms each. These dedicated utilities are already available through their respective app stores.

PTI had confirmed yesterday itself that the IRCTC officials are planning to launch these apps. Although it is possible for commuters to book e-tickets through the official web portal of the railways via any internet-enabled device, the application should further simplify the procedure. The Government-owned entity claims that on an average, it books as many as 4 lakhs e-tickets on a daily basis.

But the utilities’ abilities are not limited to booking tickets, there are a number of other operations that users can carry out from within the applications. It is possible to check reservation or PNR status and even train schedules. Subscribers who are not aware of various train routes can also turn to the application for help.

Details about various trains can also be found in it along with availability of tickets for chosen destinations. It saves your booking and recent history and lets you make cancellation from your handheld device itself. An option to add passengers as contacts has also been thrown into the mix.

And if that’s not enough, the IRCTC application even saves your details and allows you to make the transaction from multiple devices. You can expect live notifications on your phone from the railways as well.

The IRCTC mobile application is now available for free through the official Windows Phone store. The mobile application is compatible with smartphones running WP8 and 7.5.
